The Ebonyi State House of Assembly has confirmed two Commissioner Nominees for possible appointment into the State Executive Council.

The nominees are Prof. Amari Omaka and Hon. Nwenugwu Nwite.

Their confirmation followed a formal request forwarded to the state House of Assembly last week by Governor Francis Nwifuru, seeking legislative approval for them to serve as commissioners.

Prof. Omaka, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), had previously served as Commissioner for Higher Education in Governor Nwifuru’s administration, but
was relieved of his job about six months ago, in the aftermath of a communal clash between his community, Amasiri, and their neighbours Okporojo, both of the Edda Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

Documents made available to the state House of Assembly, revealed that Hon. Nwite had served as a member of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly in 2007, but his tenure was cut short in 2008 following a court judgment that nullified his election.

Anchor Reporters gathered that after their introductions, the two nominees were asked to bow out, in line with the standing rules of the legislative Assembly, having previously undergone legislative screening and having served in public offices in the past

They are expected to be sworn in as commissioners in the state executive council, later this week.
