Candidate of the African Democratic Congress,ADC, for Abakaliki North State Constituency in the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Mr. Joseph Ogbaga, has pledged effective representation of his constituents, if elected to office in the 2027 general elections.
In a release issued on Friday and made available to journalists in Abakaliki, Ogbaga said Nigeria’s Democracy Day provides an opportunity to reflect on the sacrifices of pro-democracy advocates and the collective responsibility of Nigerians in sustaining democratic governance.
He urged Nigerians to remain committed to defending democratic values and protecting the sanctity of the ballot as the nation marks the 2026 Democracy Day celebration.
According to him, democracy can only flourish when citizens actively participate in governance and remain vigilant in safeguarding their votes and holding elected officials accountable.
His words: “democracy is not only about casting ballots during elections, it is about ensuring that those votes are protected and that the will of the people is reflected in governance.
“Nigerians should deepen their engagement in governance beyond election periods by monitoring government activities, demanding accountability, and participating in community affairs.”
The House of Assembly hopeful stressed the need for purposeful representation at all levels of government, stating that Abakaliki North deserves leadership that meets the development needs of the people.
Ogbaga pointed out some areas that require urgent attention to include education, youth empowerment, healthcare delivery, and rural infrastructure, adding that effective representation should aim at addressing the concerns of the people.
The ADC candidate noted that credible elections remain the bedrock of national development and democratic stability, noting that every vote must count to strengthen public confidence in the electoral process.
He further encouraged constituents to take active interest in governance by engaging elected representatives and contributing to decision-making processes within their communities.
“The strength of democracy lies in the people. When citizens are informed, united, and active, it becomes difficult for democracy to be undermined,” he emphasised.
