The wife of the Anambra State Governor and founder of Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo, Dr. Nonye Soludo, has urged Nigerians to prioritise brain health through preventive care and healthy lifestyle choices as part of activities marking World Brain Day 2026.
In a statement issued in Awka on Wednesday, Dr. Soludo said the annual observance provides an opportunity to raise awareness about neurological health, promote early detection of brain-related conditions and encourage measures that support healthier and more productive lives.
She said the 2026 theme, “Brain Health: Access for All,” highlights the need for equitable access to quality neurological healthcare, including diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation services, irrespective of location or socio-economic background.
According to her, millions of people globally continue to face challenges accessing essential neurological care, making the campaign particularly significant for developing countries such as Nigeria.
Dr. Soludo said the message of World Brain Day aligns with the preventive healthcare goals of the Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo initiative, stressing that public awareness, early intervention and stronger healthcare systems are critical to reducing the impact of neurological disorders.
She encouraged people living with neurological conditions and their families to seek timely medical care and emotional support, noting that early diagnosis and proper management can improve outcomes and enhance quality of life. She also called for an end to stigma against people affected by brain-related disorders.
The governor’s wife advised Nigerians to adopt habits that support brain health, including eating balanced diets, exercising regularly, getting adequate sleep, managing stress, and avoiding tobacco and excessive alcohol consumption.
She also urged individuals to keep their minds active through lifelong learning, social engagement and routine health checks, describing these practices as essential for maintaining cognitive wellbeing.
Dr. Soludo called on governments, healthcare providers, civil society groups and the media to intensify advocacy and public education efforts aimed at expanding access to neurological services across Nigeria.
“A healthy brain is the foundation of a healthy life. By embracing good nutrition, regular physical activity, quality sleep, lifelong learning and mental wellness, we can protect one of God’s greatest gifts. Let us nurture our minds, support one another and build a healthier, more productive society,” she said.
The Anambra First Lady reaffirmed her commitment to promoting preventive healthcare awareness and supporting initiatives that encourage healthier lifestyles among residents and Nigerians at large.
