Imo APP Condemns Attack On Party Secretariat, Calls For Level-Playing Field

The Action Peoples’ Party (APP) in Imo State has condemned the attack on Sunday at its secretariat and the destruction of its billboard in Owerri by suspected thugs.
In a statement signed by its publicity secretary, Steve Nnadi, the party called for restraint and level-playing ground as electioneering gears to take off in the state.
“The Imo State Chapter of the Action Peoples’ Party (APP) ably led Hon.Ernest Njesi strongly condemns the unwarranted invasion of its State Secretariat Owerri by suspected political thugs in the early hours of Sunday, July 19, 2026,” the party said in its statement.
The party described the incident as a serious threat to democracy, the rule of law, and peaceful political participation in Imo State.
The statement reads further: “According to impeccable reports available to the party, the incident occurred at about 6:10 am when a group of heavily armed individuals in a commando manner, scaled the perimeter fence of the party’s State Secretariat and forcefully gained access to the premises.
“The party has also received reports from eyewitnesses alleging that the group was led by the Special Adviser to the Governor of Imo State on Monitoring and Compliance, Nze Chinasa Nwaneri, alongside some of his associates.
“According to the eyewitness accounts, the individuals allegedly vandalised party property, including the destruction of the party’s billboard and other campaign materials mounted within the premises of the State Secretariat.
“The Action Peoples’ Party views this alleged act as a disturbing development capable of undermining the peaceful political atmosphere currently existing in the state.
“The party is equally concerned by what appears to be a pattern of politically motivated intimidation, following similar incidents reportedly recorded at Umuoyima in Owerri Municipal Council, and at Arondizuogu in Ideato North.”
Calling on security agencies “to immediately commence a thorough, impartial, and transparent investigation into these allegations,” the party APP insisted “that anyone found culpable, irrespective of status or political affiliation, should be made to face the full weight of the law.”
The party firmly maintained that violence, intimidation, harassment, and the destruction of political party property have no place in a democratic society.
“Every registered political party has the constitutional right to conduct its lawful activities without fear, intimidation, harassment, or unlawful interference,” it said.

The APP appealed to the Governor Hope Uzodinma and all security agencies to urgently intervene by calling all political actors and government officials to order.
“It is imperative that every political party is provided with a level playing field to freely engage in legitimate political activities as preparations for future elections continue across the state.
“The Action Peoples’ Party remains unwavering in its commitment to peace, democracy, constitutional order, and the rule of law.
“The party therefore urges all its members, supporters, and the general public to remain calm, law abiding, and refrain from any form of retaliation while allowing the appropriate security agencies to carry out their constitutional responsibilities,” the APP said in the statement.
