The Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has announced a monthly allowance of ₦30,000 for every Corps member serving in the state.
Governor Nwifuru announced the gesture on Friday, at the swearing-in ceremony of the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Afikpo.
The Governor , who was represented at the event by the state commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Chidiebere Onyia, welcomed the corps members to Ebonyi State.
Gov. Nwifuru described the state as peaceful, secure, accommodating and full of opportunities.
He urged the corps members to embrace the diversity of Nigeria, respect their host communities, and contribute meaningfully to the development of the state.
“I want to encourage the Corps members, to see their service year as an opportunity for their personal growth, skills development, and nation building.
“I assure you of the full support of the Government of Ebonyi State, throughout your service year, and I wish you a safe, productive, and rewarding experience in our state,” Nwifuru said.
Earlier in an address, the Chairman of the NYSC Governing Board in Ebonyi State and Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Chidiebere Onyia, urged the corps members to embrace hard work, discipline, integrity, and respect for constituted authorities throughout their service year.
The commissioner, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Hilary Ogbonna, urged the Corps members to embrace hard work, discipline, integrity, and respect for constituted authorities throughout their stay in the state.
He said the state government under Governor Francis Nwifuru, remains committed to youth development, the welfare and security of corps members pserving in the state.
Ogbonna encouraged the corps members to participate actively in camp activities and make meaningful contributions to their host communities.
He assured them of a peaceful and conducive environment throughout their service year, and wished them a successful and rewarding experience in Ebonyi State.
Meanwhile, the Coordinator of NYSC in Ebonyi State, Mrs. Pat. Maidariya, on the occasion, called for increased support of the state government to the corps, to improve facilities at the Permanent Orientation Camp in Afikpo.
Maidariya, also appealed for the modernisation of some facilities in the Orientation Camp.
She said the camp needed befitting kitchen, construction of a standard dining hall, establishment of a Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development Centre, renovation of the perimeter fence, and provision of additional facilities in the multipurpose hall.
The NYSC coordinator appreciated Ebonyi State Government for its continued support and partnership with the scheme, particularly in the area of youth development and empowerment and urged the Corps members to participate actively in camp activities, maintain discipline, and uphold the values of patriotism, unity, integrity, and selfless service.
She further commended the camp officials, collaborating agencies, resource persons, and security personnel for their contributions to the success of the orientation exercise.
Highlights of the event was signing the oath of allegiance by the corps members, presentation of tour of War by the man ‘O’ war and the inspection of projects at the NYSC permanent orientation camp.
Our correspondent reports that the event also served as the official opening ceremony of the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II Orientation Course for corps members deployed to Ebonyi State.
