Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Party, NDC, in the 2027 general election in Nigeria, Mr. Peter Obi, has appealed to the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, UNN, to release all documents in his file from admission into the institution to the final year for public scrutiny.
Former publicity secretary of the Labour Party, Abayomi Arabambi has asked the court to invoke the Freedom of Information Act, FOIA, and compel the University of Nigeria to release Obi’s academic records at the university.
However, responding to the issue in an interview in with Rudolf Okonkwo, a US-based Nigerian journalist, Obi said that he would want his record at the UNN to be released to the public.
He said, “Somebody just told me this morning that someone wants to know about my certificate at the UNN.
“I want to say: please, I’m begging the University of Nigeria Nsukka to make available every document that is in my file on how I was admitted into the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, all my results from Year One to my final year,” Obi said.
He said the same thing to all the international schools where he studied.
Among the international schools that the NDC presidential candidate listed were the Lagos Business School, London School of Economics, Columbia Business School, Kellogg School of Management, Harvard Business School, Oxford Business School, and Cambridge.
Insisting that all other candidates should subject themselves to scrutiny, Obi said anyone who seeks public office must not have anything to hide from the public.
“If you want to seek a public life, you must subject your life to public scrutiny. Because you are leader, you must exemplify the values that make the society work, especially for the younger ones. You want to answer his Excellency you must at least be excellent to an extent,” Obi said.
Obi also responded to the assertion by former presidential aide, Reno Omokiri, that all presidential candidates contesting the 2027 elections have files with the FBI, following the case in a US court over President Bola Tinubu’s alleged involvement in drug trafficking.
He said he was not aware of any file concerning him at the FBI, stating that he has never been questioned by the FBI.
“I don’t even know who FBI is. This year alone, I have come to America five or six times, coming through air.
“ If they have file on me, I don’t know; if they don’t have I don’t know. I have never met FBI.
“It is Reno Omokiri and FBI that meet. It is people who meet FBI that know.
“They even said Scotland Yard has a file on me. I have never met any Scotland Yard.
“In Nigeria I have never gone to any police station,” Obi stated.
