News Central Removes Video Of Man Calling For Nnamdi Kanu’s Death

News Central, a national television station in Nigeria, says it has removed the video of the man calling for the death of the leader of the Indigeneous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, from its social media channels

Chigozie Nnabugwu from Imo State had, while appearing as a guest on News Central TV on Monday, called on the federal government to kill Nnamdi Kanu for peace to return to the South-east.

Reacting to the call, lawyer to Nnamdi Kanu, Aloy Ejimakor threatened to file an action against Nnabugwu, stating that matter was before the Court of Appeal.

Ejimakor also reminded the News Centeal that “by platforming this inflammatory content without due regard for its potential to incite violence or threaten public peace, News Central TV may face regulatory sanctions for breach of broadcast codes on incitement and public order.”

Following this development, the News Central Media issued a statement on Saturday announcing its decision to remove the video clips from its social media handles.

The statement reads in part, “Following the concerns raised, News Central undertook an internal review of the relevant Breakfast Xtra broadcast and the associated digital content in accordance with our editorial goverance and compliance processes. As part of that process and in the exercise of our editorial discretion, the specific video clip referenced in the press release has removed from our social media platforms.”
