The Ebonyi State Government has approved the proposed design, building and operation of a 6000 TYD EPC Cement plant project to be located in Nkalagu, in the Ishielu Local Government Area of the state.
Briefing newsmen on the outcome of an emergency Executive Council meeting held in Abakaliki the Ebonyi State capital, Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Ikeuwa Omebeh, said the factory would be established in partnership with China JIANGSU PENGFEI GROUP LTD.
He noted that the approval was part of the decisions which were jointly taken by him, and his counterparts in the Ministry of Justice, Ben Uruchi Odo, and Commerce & Industry, Oguzor Offia-Nwali.
The commissioner stated that the State Executive Council was briefed on the outcome of the trip to China.
According to him, “the EXCO was briefed on some major economic prospects garnered, which include Contracts for the reactivation of our Secondary Schools on digital technology to operate a smart system at that educational level.
“Under this proposed arrangement a company will be established at the ICT University, Oferekpe to produce digital cameras and other electronic gadgets.”
Omebeh said that following the failure of some contractors to complete work on the 2Km road projects across the state after repeated warnings, Governor Nwifuru had ordered immediate and complete termination of all the uncompleted ones.
He emphasised that government’s intention for the University is to make it a “wonderland” of educational and technological tourism destination, adding that the state government had already procured and delivered high density generating set to supply power to the University.
Continuing, he said, “EXCO, after taking a hard look on the progress of work on the state government’s 2km Road Projects, the Honourable Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice was directed to complete the termination processes of all uncompleted 2km road projects before the close of work on Wednesday, 22nd July 2026.”
He added that Special EXCO Committees have been constituted for each Local Government Area to ensure their completion before September, 2026.
“EXCO thereby further directed the Commissioner for Special Project, Dr Ngozi Obichukwu to immediately take inventory of all uncompleted 2km Road Projects for necessary actions.”
The state Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Chief Oguzor Offia-Nwali, said a memorandum of of understanding and an agreement was signed between Ebonyi State Government and the Chinese company, on the establishment of the factory, while other processes are systematically being followed.
Gov. Nwifuru had, a few weeks ago, invited some Chinese expatriates who carried out inspection tour of the proposed site for the factory, resulting in a 2-week visit to China, by a delegation of government officials, led by the governor.
