The Senate Deputy Chief Whip, Onyekachi Nwebonyi has charged
beneficiaries of this year’s scholarship scheme of his foundation to shun cultism and study hard, for them to be useful to themselves and the society.

Making the disbursement, Senator Nwebonyi said he offered the scholarships to save the indigent students from dropping out of school.

He noted that the gesture was to complement the effort of the state Governor, Francis Nwifuru, in the education sector.

The Senator said: “Governor Nwifuru has offered foreign and local scholarships to over 1,000 graduates for their Masters and PhDs. I expect them to be serious with their studies because like I said, in our own time I didn’t have this type of opportunity.”

Continuing, Nwebonyi said, “but now, things have changed. People like us are out to support them to ensure that those indigent students didn’t drop out of school. This is why we are increasing it from 500 to 830 students. And why I was here, I got another list which is over 100.

“So, I expect them to
utilise this
opportunity and make sure they don’t join cultism. They should read from classroom to their reading desks and that is what I did and I am a lawyer, and that gave me the edge to be in the Senate.”

“So, we expect that by tomorrow, we are going to have better leaders than us because we have given them golden opportunity to excel”, he said,” the senator emphasised.

He implored the beneficiaries not to join social media to castigate leaders, but to continue to support them to encourage them to do better.

Nwebonyi, who represents Ebonyi North senatorial zone said he has set standards in different sectors, through quality representation.

The Wife of Ebonyi State Governor, Mrs. Maudlin Nwifuru, who was represented at the event by the state Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Felicia Nwamkpuma, said through the scholarships, Nwebonyi has invested in education and the future of the beneficiaries.

She observed that the initiative demonstrates commitment to human capital development and complements the efforts of the state government in promoting quality education and youth empowerment.

The wife of the governor congratulated the beneficiaries and urged them to make the lawmaker, the state and the nation proud, by being dedicated to their studies, upholding excellence, and shunning all negative behaviors.

Mrs. Nwifuru also told the beneficiaries, “let this scholarship invite you to a class of responsible citizens who will contribute meaningfully to the development of our state and nation.”

Anchor Reporters learned that the lawmaker disbursed the sum of ₦100m to 930 beneficiaries, who were indigent undergraduate, and postgraduate students across Ebonyi North Senatorial zone.
