Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have rescued a heavily pregnant 15-year-old girl and arrested a suspect, Tochukwu Nwora, for alleged child exploitation and sexual abuse.
The rescue took place on June 17 during a targeted raid near St. Paul’s Secondary School in Achalla, Awka North Local Government Area.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the development in a release on Friday.
According to Ikenga, operatives attached to the Achalla Divisional Headquarters launched the operation following intelligence reports regarding local youths using crystal methamphetamine, locally known as “Mkpuru Mmiri.”
Widening Investigation into Multiple Abusers
Preliminary investigations indicate that the teenager was repeatedly abused by multiple adult males across various locations, including:
Nando(Anambra East LGA)
Nteje (Oyi LGA)
Achalla (Awka North LGA)
“Investigators believe some of the suspects took advantage of the teenager’s vulnerable condition by offering her small sums of money,” Ikenga stated.
The police spokesman sais the victim has been placed in protective custody and transferred to the Police Hospital in Awka for medical evaluation and care.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, has ordered the case transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a comprehensive probe.
The investigation will also look into potential negligence or complicity by the victim’s parents or guardians.
Police confirmed that the arrested suspect, Nwora, is cooperating with investigators, and efforts are underway to track down the remaining suspects.
