Ndume Backs Setting Up of US Military Base in Borno State to fight Boko Haram

The Senator representing Borno South Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Ali Ndume, has has said that the setting up  of a United States military base in Borno State will go a long way in Nigeria’s fight against the  Boko Haram insurgency in the North-East of the country.

Appearing on the Channels Television programme, ‘Sunday Politics’ Ndume stated that a US military base in region would give fillip to Nigeria’s efforts to combat insurgency.

Senator Ndume, a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, said that siting such a military base at the Mandara Mountains would give security operatives a strategic position from where they will monitor activities of insurgents in the north east. 

“I am in full support. In fact, I am appealing. Let the Americans go to Gwoza and take over the Mandara Mountains, please. It will go a long way to cut down on insecurity, ” the senator said.

According to Ndume, enhanced surveillance and military operations in the area will disrupt movement routes and supply channels being used by insurgent groups operating across parts of the North-East.

He called on the government to provide more resources and support for the military for effective fight against insecurity.
