Ebonyi Highest UTME Scorer gets Varsity Scholarship

Victor Obasi, who got the highest score among candidates from Ebonyi who wrote the 2026/27 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME, has been awarded scholarship by Minister of Works, Dave Umahi.

Umahi’s Senior Special Assistant, Francis Nwaze said in a release issued on Thursday by Umahi’s Senior Special Assistant, Francis Nwaze and made available to newsmen in  Abakaliki, indicates that the minister announced the offer shortly after he received the news of the candidate’s outstanding performance.

The recipient, Victor Obasi was a student of King David Gifted Academy, Abakaliki, an institution established by the minister when he was the governor of Ebonyi State.

The release quotes the Works Minister as saying that King David Gifted Academy stands out as a center of academic excellence.

“I give God the glory. I offer scholarship to this child. 

“He is a pioneer set of King David Gifted Academy, Abakaliki, an elite institution founded in 2016 by Engr. David Umahi, while serving as Governor of Ebonyi State.”

It further reads, “the school was established with a vision to create a one-stop destination for academic excellence. 

“It has become a breeding ground for outstanding scholars and future leaders, attracting national recognition for its impressive academic achievements.”

Victor Obasi scored an impressive 356 marks, in the 2026 UTME to  become the highest scorer in Ebonyi State, one of Nigeria’s

brightest young scholars.
