Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Mr. Peter Obi and former President Olusegun Obasanjo met on Wednesday as consultations continue ahead of the 2027 general election.
Photos of the meeting were shared on X by Obi’s campaign photographer, Esther Umoh.
However, details of the discussions and venue of the meeting were not disclosed.
She wrote: “Earlier today, the presidential candidate of the NDC, Peter Obi, met with former president Olusegun Obasanjo.”
There have been speculations over who Obasanjo is supporting among the candidates running in the 2027 presidential election.
The Yoruba Ronu Leadership Forum had , in a statement on Sunday, signed by its president, Akin Malaolu, alleged that Obasanjo’s recent political interventions were carefully designed to weaken the opposition rather than strengthen it.
The group accused the former president of secretly working for the re-election og President Bola Tinubu.
However. Obasanjo’s former Political Adviser, Dr Akin Osuntokun, said the former President is backing the Peter Obi-Rabiu Kwankwaso presidential alliance on the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress.
Obi’s meeting with Obasanjo on Wednesday might not be unconnected with these developments.
