“I know What It Takes To Unite Nigeria”–Peter Obi

Presidential Candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Mr. Peter Obi said on Sunday that one of the three principle things he would do as president is to unite the country.

Obi stated this during a two-hour interview on ‘Sunday Politics’ a Channels Television programme anchored by Seun Okinbaloye.

The former governor of Anambra State, who is taking another shot at the country’s presidency, said he knew what it would take to unite Nigeria.

“I know what it takes to unite Nigeria… I have been to most troubled parts of the north on humanitarian visits.

“There’s no politician today in Nigeria who has travelled to places I’ve been by road, from Kafanchan to Katsina, down to Maiduguri to everywhere in Nigeria because I want the country to be together,” Obi said.

He also said he would work to secure every part of Nigeria, pointing out that root cause of insecurity in Nigeria is unemployment and poverty.

Obi said insecurity also feeds from leadership failure and vowed to lead the fight against insecurity from the forefront because any leader must be ready to sacrifice his life for the people.

“I will do everything possible to secure Nigeria,” Obi said.

In response to the allegations that the Pandora Papers said he hid money in offshore accounts, Obi said he declared all his assets before he became governor.

He added that the Code of Conduct Bureau, CCB, investigated everything he declared, including his assets abroad.

On criticisms that he did not build schools in Anambra State as governor, Peter Obi said he built more than schools.

Giving examples of the schools he built, Obi said he built from the scratch, the Igbariam Campus of the Odumegwu Ojukwu University.

He said he also built the university’s teaching hospital.

“When I became governor, there was no single school of nursing, mid mifery, lab science, or lab technology in Anambra state, by the time I left office, there were 10,” Obi said.
