The Labour Party House of Representatives candidate for Abakaliki/Izzi Federal Constituency of Ebonyi State in the 2027 general elections, Dr. Ezeh Emmanuel Ezeh, has urged the electorate to vote against members of the National Assembly who have failed to offer effective representation, and
protect democratic principles.

The call was contained in a series of posts he published on his official social media handles on Wednesday in Abakaliki, the state capital.

He said there should be a critical evaluation of the performance of National Assembly members from the state, to know whether they deserved re-election.

His words: “the quality of representation at the National Assembly is critical to strengthening Nigeria’s democracy, promoting accountability, and ensuring that the interests of citizens are adequately protected.

“So, our elected lawmakers should be capable of effectively holding the executive accountable. They should not be returned to office in the next year’s general elections, if they have failed us.”

The Labour Party stalwart observed that if the current federal legislators were re-elected, they would go for a constitutional amendment that could seek to extend the tenure of the president in the future.

Dr. Eze faulted the National Assembly on some stipulations of the 2026 Electoral Act, stressing that their actions had not justified another mandate from the electorate.

According to him, “sending them all back home is a task before all sensible Ndi Ebonyi.

“I urge our people not to allow partisan interests or political sentiments to influence their choices at the polls. Let them elect leaders based on integrity, competence and commitment to democratic governance.”

The Labour Party chieftain further said Nigerians should not continue to empower leaders who could not support actions capable of protecting constitutional democracy.

“We cannot keep empowering leaders who would produce a lifetime president.

“Such leaders would fail in holding the executive arm accountable. Our lives matter, our future matters, and we refuse to be sacrificed for anyone’s ambition,” he insisted.

Ezeh disclosed that the Labour Party in Ebonyi North Senatorial zone had adopted a political approach that recognises the diverse interests of communities across the zone.

He described the strategy as a “Rainbow Coalition,” adding it is is aimed at fostering unity among party stakeholders and providing credible leadership alternatives ahead of next year’s general elections.

“This is in line with my suggestion for a “Rainbow Coalition.” I urge party supporters and the general public to await the formal unveiling of Labour Party’s political agenda for the 2027 elections,” he emphasised.

The House of Reps hopeful expressed confidence that Labour Party in Ebonyi State would present a credible alternative, capable of delivering effective representation and advancing democratic governance in the state.
