The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has cleared candidates of seven political parties to contest in the June 20, 2026 bye-election for the vacant seat in the Enugu North Senatorial Zone.
The candidates cleared to run in the bye-election are Chika Idoko Emmanuel, Africa Democratic Congress, ADC; Asogwa Ikeje Israel, All Progressives Congress, APC; Aneke Kingsley Chukwuebuka, Boots Party, BP; and Eze Ejike Simon, Labour, LP.
Others are Ossai Elias Okwudili, Nigeria Democratic Party, NDC; Ezeme Nestor Chika, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP; and Ugwuanyi Charles Ugochukwu, Peoples Redemption Party, PRP.
The by-election will be conducted across the six local government areas that make up Enugu North Senatorial District.
The Councils are Igbo Etiti, Igbo Eze North, Igbo Eze South, Nsukka, Udenu and Uzo-Uwani.
The Enugu North Senatorial seat became vacant following the death, in November 2025, of Senator Okey Ezea who was elected in 2023 on the platform of the Labour Party, LP.
