The wife of the Anambra State Governor, Mrs Nonye Soludo, has vowed to ensure justice for a 10-year-old boy alleged to hsve been abuse by his guardians in Awada, Obosi, in Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.
Disturbing videos, which circulated on social media showing injuries on the boy’s body, sparked outrage, prompting calls for the prosecution of those responsible.
The boy, said to be from Enugu State, is currently receiving medical treatment under state protection.
Mrs Soludo said in a statement on Monday that the alleged abuse was horrific and heartbreaking.
She stressed that no child deserved such treatment regardless of any wrongdoing.
She saud that she had directed the state’s Commissioner for Health, Dr Afam Obidike, to facilitate the transfer of the child to a more suitable medical facility where he can receive specialised treatment and comprehensive care.
“I am deeply saddened and disturbed by the horrific abuse allegedly suffered by the 10-year-old boy at the hands of his guardian in Awada, Obosi.
“No child, whatever the offence, deserves to endure such cruelty, and as a mother, I find the images and reports from the incident deeply troubling,” she said.
Mrs. Soludo, who is the founder, Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo Initiative, further pledged to personally take responsibility for the boy’s rehabilitation.
She assured that the abused boy would receive the support required to recover physically, emotionally and psychologically.
Mrs Soludo also called for a thorough investigation into the incident and the prosecution of all persons connected to the alleged abuse.
She said she had demanded the arrest of the suspect’s husband to assist investigators, noting that the alleged crime occurred within his household.
“Those responsible must face the full weight of the law. Anambra State, under this administration, maintains zero tolerance for all forms of abuse against children and women, and I will personally follow up on this case to ensure that justice is duly served,” she stated.
The First Lady commended individuals and groups who brought the incident to public attention, urging residents to remain vigilant and report cases of abuse whenever they occur.
“We must all remain vigilant and speak up whenever we witness abuse because every child deserves protection, dignity, care and love. I sincerely appreciate everyone who spoke up and helped bring this heinous act to light,” she added.
The incident has continued to generate public condemnation across the state, with many residents and child rights advocates calling for swift justice and stronger protection measures for vulnerable children.
