Flood Destroys Houses, Farmlands In Ebonyi Community

Several peasant farmers’ houses in the agrarian community of Amaegbu, Akaeze, Ivo Council, Ebonyi State, have collapsed after flood incident in the area.

Farmlands and crops were also submerged in the flood.

Reports say the disaster displaced several households in the community; while properties worth billions of nairavwere also lost.

Anchor Reporters also gathered that the flood affected more than fifty families, leaving them without shelter and means of livelihood.

Reacting to the incident during a visit to area, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State, Dr. Ifeanyi Odii, said the flood caused extensive damage to homes, crops farmlands, and other personal belongings of inhabitants of the community.

He made a cash donation of five million naira to the victims, and urged
them to use the money judiciously to cushion the effect of the disaster on their families.

The PDP stalwart further promised to engage relevant agencies of the state and the federal governments on the situation with a view to securing further assistance for the affected residents.

“I am not happy with the development. I have been hearing about it. We are here to console you and show you that we are human beings.

“By the grace of God, when we are in government by next year, we will do more. We are going to call on government after our assistance.

“When we assume office, we are going to find a permanent solution to the situation. We will reach out to the state and Federal Governments concerning it,” Odii said.

The PDP Chairman in Ivo Local Government Area, Mr. Johnson Dike appealed to the victims to remain calm, adding that the party would continue to support efforts to provide relief to them.

The people of the community appealed to the Ebonyi State government and relevant agencies to urgently intervene, pointing out that many families had been left helpless.
