The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ebonyi State Council, has commended Governor Francis Nwifuru for his massive investment in infrastructure, especially in education and technology.
The chairman of NUJ in the state, Comrade Samson Nwafor stated this on Monday, shortly after he led journalists on an inspection tour of government projects across the state.
The project tour was part of activities lined up for the 2026 NUJ Press Week in state.
The projects inspected included the Ebonyi State ICT University, Nwofe Agbaja Flyover, the remodeled Trade Fair Centre now known as International Hotel, the Ebonyi Industrial Clusters, Vanco Flyover and Underground Tunnel, as well as road projects within and outside Abakaliki capital city.
Nwafor told journalists that the level of infrastructural development at the ICT University was an
evidence of Governor Nwifuru’s commitment to education, technology and innovation.
The NUJ Chairman said, “this project could become a centre of technological development in Nigeria and Africa.
“One will think that maybe the governor is completing the project started by his predecessor, not knowing that just within three years plus, this massive project was put on ground and academic activities had already commenced.
“I want to also commend him on the quality of infrastructure at the university’s staff quarters.
:The facilities here are quite impressive. So, I urge you, gentlemen of the press to do your reports, based on what you have personally observed.”
Nwafor expressed optimism that in the next 15 years, the university would become a major attraction for technology and innovation, adding that the development of the institution will contribute significantly to the transformation of Ebonyi state and Nigeria.
He noted that the inspection was part of the responsibilities of journalists in the state, to provide the public with factual information and ensure accountability in governance, adding that journalists should not rely solely on social media
claims.
The chairman further said, “we have gone round and I can say without mincing words that the state government under the leadership of Governor Francis Nwifuru has done so much, especially in education.
“I therefore, urge the contractors and engineers handling government projects across the state, to maintain professional standards and ensure that, projects were executed in the interest of the people, just as we journalists are committed to balanced, factual and constructive reportage.”
This year’s Press Week has “2027: The Ballot, The Truth and The Future” as its theme.
