Former Imo State Governor, Senator Rochas Okorocha, has filed a suit at the Federal High Court in Abuja challenging the list of candidates for the Imo West Senatorial Zone in the 2027 general election.
Listed as defendants in the case are the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State and the All Progressives Congress, APC.
In the case filed on August 13, 2026, and marked as suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/1854/2026, Okorocha, represented by O.J. Aboje, is claiming that he won the APC primary election held on May 18 for the Imo West Senatorial District.
He challenges INEC’s publication of Governor Uzodinma’s name as the candidate for the seat, calling it unconstitutional and contrary to the outcome of the primary.
Okorocha is asking the court to declare him the rightful nominee and invalidate the electoral commission’s listing of Uzodinma.
Okorocha represented Imo West in the Senate from 2019 to 2023.
He failed in his bid to return to the Senate in the APC primary election in May to Governor Uzodinma.
Uzodinma was also a senator for the zone before he became governor in 2020, and got re-elected in 2024.
His term as governor will end in 2028, but he has the APC ticket to contest for the senate in 2027.
